Find out the truth behind expiration dates!
I know we all have a divine lipstick we don’t want to get rid of or some beauty products that we have never used but we keep them there just in case. Many women feel like they do not have to throw products because “Oh, dear, I used it only once or twice”. But the truth is that nothing remains the same over time (especially beauty products which are highly sensitive). No matter how many times a product is used. If it’s used only once, but term of validity passed, it’s time to get it to the trash. It can be even new, unopened, but if the expiration date on its packaging is long passed – the product must be removed from your makeup bag or vanity. Makeup generally can keep germs and bacteria that can be very harmful to our skin.
Therefore, a while ago I did a research to find the precise shelf life of the makeup products I use every day. And now I am happy to share this with you!
Powder & Eyeshadow: 3 years
Eye and lip pencils: 2-3 years
(Sharpen them before each use as a way to preserve them and keep them clean)
Lipstick and lip gloss: 2-3 years
(but if it smells weird, throw it out)
Foundation: About 1-2 years
(Most bottles are designed to last that long)
Concealer: 1-2 years
(you can see it’s bad if the color or texture is changing)
Skin Care Products: No more than 2 years
Sunscreen: Check the package for an expiration date.
Mascara: 3 months
Liquid Liner: 3 months
Sponges: Wash weekly and throw them monthly.
Brushes: Wash them every week
I hope these tips will help and motivate you to say good-bye to old makeup products. 🙂 Remember that quality is more important than quantity! Share it with your girl friends and write me in comments what do you want to see in the next article! xx
