Find out how to choose the perfect foundation for your skin!
The foundation represents the makeup base and an essential must have in women’s makeup bag! A suitable well-applied foundation illuminates the face and offers a gorgeous look. In makeup is just like in any other domain. For successful results you need a good base. Even though the eye makeup and lips are well done, if the skin doesn’t look good the entire look is ruined. Therefore, using foundation helps to cover imperfections in order to achieve a perfect look. I have often noticed that girls have trouble finding the right shade of foundation. To obtain the desired result you have to keep in mine 3 essential factors: texture, shades and application procedure.
Color Creams – BB cream / CC cream
- Ideal for young smooth skin as well as for wrinkled skin
- It’s a combination between moisturizer and foundation
- Designed to hydrate and norish the skin, but also to even color
- Is very efficient in the summer for easy coverage and hydration
Liquid Foundation
- Ideal for any skyn type (dry, mixed or oily)
- Be careful when you buy it because there are special formulas based on oil if you have dry skin and water-based formula for oily and normal.
- Medium coverage
- It’s recommended to be used in summer for day makeup
- If you have oily skin is recommended using fluid foundation with a translucent powder
- When choosing any foundation is important to opt for a shade that is close to the skin
Cream Foundation
- Recommended for mixed or dry skin types
- Medium coverage
- Suitable especially for problematic skin
- It dries very quickly, making its application on skin more difficult
- Can create a mask effect on the face because of the dense consistency, so be careful to uniform this type of foundation.
Mousse Foundation
- Can be used by all skin stypes
- Air whipped texture for easy application
- It doesn’t make the skin cakey, it’s ideal for oily skin because it makes it matte and smooth
- Long lasting
- Apply with a makeup sponge
Mineral Foundation
- Safe for all skin types; especially recommended for oily skin, acne, sensitive, wrinkled, irritated or allergic
- It is more like a loose powder
- Made with natural ingredients
- High coverage (for light to medium coverage, use less product)
- Must be applied with a big brush (kabuki)
Compact Cream Foundation
- Recommended for oily skin; due to high content of powder it gives a matte finish
- High coverage
- Works successfully to camouflage imperfections
Compact Powder Foundation
- Recommended for oily skin
- It’s very easy and quick to use
- It works as a foundation and a powder in the same time
- The skin appearance remains natural
Camuflage Foundation
- I do not recommend to use this product daily because it’s too heavy
- High coverage
- Perfect to cover any skin problem, damaged areas such as acne, pigmentation, burns, tattoos, bruises, redness, etc.
- Used for special makeup, photoshoots, scene or wedding makeup.
Stick Foundation
- Recommended for normal, combination or oily skin
- High coverage
- It must to be used only on the damaged areas; for the rest of the face apply liquid foundation
- When you want to but a new foundation, don’t test it on the wrist or neck. Always try it on your chin/jaw.
- If you can’t go to shopping without makeup ask for samples and apply it at home. Wait 15 minutes to see if it will get oxidized (oxidation comes when the natural oils of the skin blends in with the oil foundation; this will make the foundation darker).
- Another trick you can do is to take the old foundation with you to the store for a good reference of color
- Also, you can buy two shades of foundation and mix them together to get the desired shade.
- Before buying the product, make sure that the foundation looks good on natural light too. Artificial light from the stores can change the color perception.
- Take good care of your skin before applying foundation. Read here the golden rules for a perfect complexion
- Start with a little product and add more along the way for higher coverage
- To make the application last longer, use a daily cream or primer
- Foundation and primer (or moisturizer) have to be compatible (a water based foundation must be applied with a water based cream/primer)
- Use your finger tips for a smooth and soft look. The body temperature will make the application easier and the skin will be looking more natural.
- If you opt for a makeup sponge I recommend wetting the sponge and spreading the product by tapping.
- Using a flat brush or kabuki will provide precisely movements
Which type of foundation do you use? 🙂
if it’s redness you have, ngueroetna has really good products that reduce it like acne stress control cleansers which also comes with a toner that balances the skin out. or you could use a tinted moisturizer, which is much more light than a foundation but will still even out your skin!
Thanks for the article. It was really helpful.
